ASSESSMENT OF CAPACITY NEEDS OF LECTURERS FOR IMPROVED STANDARD OF TEACHING ECONOMICS EDUCATION IN MICHAEL OKPARA UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE, UMUDIKE

The study assessed the capacity needs of lecturers for improved standard of teaching economics education in MOUAU. Descriptive survey design was used for the study. Five research questions guided the study. Targeted population of 302 were used for the study. A sample size of 302 respondents comprising 2 Lecturers and 300 final year students of economics education in MOUAU were drawn through purposive sampling technique. A 4-point rating scale questionnaire (CNLISTEEQ) with face validity ascertained by three experts from; Measurement and Evaluation, Education Administration and Planning in the College of Education in Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike and reliability coefficient of 0.81 as a measure of internal consistency was obtained through Cronbach Alpha statistics. The 302 copies of questionnaires were administered through on the spot answering method. Research questions were answered using mean ratings, while the hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.05 level of significance. The result of the findings revealed that funding has impact on the educational system of MOUAU, that there is no significant difference in the mean score responses of lecturers and students on the extent economics education lecturers have regular workshop attendance for professional training in MOUAU, there is a significant difference in the mean score responses of lecturers and students on the extent economics education lecturers participate in seminars for improved standard of teaching in MOUAU, there is a significant difference in the mean score responses of lecturers and students on the extent promotions of economics education lecturers’ improve their standard of teaching in MOUAU and there is no significant difference in the mean score responses of lecturers and students on the extent teaching aids supplied improved the standard of teaching economics education in MOUAU. Based on the findings, recommendations were made seminars to be organized for economics teachers.
